What will happen today? Many years ago, during one of my “todays,” I went to work with a light heart and a happy spirit. It was Friday. After work my wife and I had plans to pack the car and head south to Adams County, Ohio, where we would spend a delightful weekend with some good friends at their country farm. As I pulled the car out of the parking lot, a light mist had started to fall. Upon entering a right turn, our Chevy Nova began to skid left into oncoming traffic. In my mind I can still see, in slow motion, the final moments as the inevitable impact approached.
When the dust settled, I discovered that, although both vehicles had been severely damaged, no one had been seriously hurt. However, all of the plans my wife and I had made, for that delightful weekend, immediately vanished. Now there were cars to tow, insurance companies to be contacted, and alternate means of transportation to be arranged (we owned only one vehicle). The joyful weekend, we had so much anticipated, was replaced by the tedious process of recovering from this unwelcome event.
The outcome could have been far more severe. Death could have occurred. The joyful weekend could have been replaced, not merely by the tedious process of recovery, but by funerals and burials.
Dear reader: What if all your plans were to come to a screeching halt today? What if some unexpected event ushers you into your eternal destination? Where will you be today?
God says, “…it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” (Hebrews 9:27-28).
The Lord Jesus Christ is the only Savior. Have you cried out to Him for mercy and salvation from sin? Are you looking for Him to come the second time? Where will you spend eternity? Are you ready?
