PARSECS OF OUTER DARKNESS?

IMAGINE THE HORROR OF BEING PARSECS FROM THE NEAREST LIGHT

A parsec is the huge distance light travels in about 3.26 years.  Since light travels approximately 186,000 miles each second, one parsec is about 19.2 trillion miles.  Our Milky Way Galaxy is about 30,660 parsecs across.  The average distance between galaxies in a typical cluster is said to be several million parsecs.  Astronomers have noticed that there appears to be one particular part of space which is especially empty.  Can you imagine the vast expanses of outer darkness that exist in these immense regions?  If you were there, you would find no neighbors for unfathomable distances in any direction.

I’ve heard folks jokingly say they don’t want to go to Heaven when they die.  They explain that they’d rather go party with all their friends who will be in the other place.  Now, I don’t know where God has put that other place, but there’s plenty of room, just in our universe, so that each lost soul could be isolated from every other lost soul by millions of parsecs.  This doesn’t sound like a very good environment for partying.

Jesus described the place to which lost souls will be sentenced as “outer darkness.”

“… I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.  But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 8:11-12)

God revealed to the Apostle John that, at the final judgment, those not found in the book of life would be cast into a place of eternal fire.

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire”. (Revelation 20:15)

Some flames are so hot that they emit almost no visible light.  It appears that God has prepared a place, for the Devil and his angels, which is hot, dark, and potentially vast.

There’s a day coming when God shall sentence those who never trusted God His Son as their sacrificial Savior.  He will say,

“… Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” Matthew 25:41

God’s Son, Jesus Christ, offered His blood to save, from sin, all who seek His forgiveness.

Have you sought His forgiveness?
