Christian: Are you reaching those trapped by whoredom?

“Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness” (Leviticus 19:29).
I once had the honor of extensive interactions with a high ranking police officer in a large city. He was quite a gentleman. He’d hired me to tutor him in a statistics course which he hoped would bring further advancement. We became friends and often had interesting conversations about his police work.
One evening he told me their criminal investigations often dealt with crimes motivated by sodomy. He said that they could always spot such crimes because of their notoriously violent, bloody, and brutal nature.
As years have passed, whoredom has spawned increasing violence and vicious abuse throughout our land. How often have you heard reports of one man murdering another over a girlfriend? Yet we Christians have often quietly cloistered ourselves within the walls of our own Christian fellowships. We avoid confronting evil in a way that might be offensive.
Brothers and sisters: The true gospel of Christ is offensive to unbelievers! Speaking of Christ, the apostle Peter wrote,
“Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed” (1 Peter 2:7-8).
This “rock of offence,” Jesus, came to “…save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21). Today, many believe whoredom is just an “alternate life style.” We, as gospel preaching Christians, need to help them understand their specific actions are offensive to God. John the Baptist very specifically warned the ruler, Herod, that his illicit relationship with his brother’s wife was sin. For this, John was ultimately beheaded (Mark 6:1-29).
We cannot preach a true gospel without confronting sin. We must confront it in ourselves first, and then, out of love, firmly point out to others that what they call an “alternate life style” is sin which places them under God’s wrath. Christ died and rose again to save sinners. He, Himself clearly stated,
“I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:32).
Christian: Are you calling sinners to repentance from wickedness?
