Will you want to hide?

Have you ever tried to hide? We hide our feelings. We smile at people we don’t really like. We display good qualities but hide the evil lurking below. Some of us verbally endorse God’s commandments, becoming indignant about liars, murderers, thieves, and adulterers. Yet we carefully hide the lying, stealing, murderous, and adulterous thoughts of our own hearts.
I once had a boss who said “perception is everything!” He believed that what people think of us is more important than what we really are. As we work to present a good image of ourselves, we often start believing our own propaganda.
However, there’s one we can’t fool. God knows the full, raw truth of what we are.
“Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do” (Hebrews 4:13).
Jesus said,
“Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: …Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart” (Matthew 5:21-22 & 27-28).
Have you ever committed murder or adultery in your heart? Will you desperately try to hide from God?
“And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb” (Revelation 6:15-16).
God the Son, Jesus, offered His blood to save His people from their sins. Scripture urges,
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” (James 4:8).
Have you drawn nigh to Jesus from whom you cannot hide?
