Are You Enslaved to the Ruler Who Says “DO WHAT YOU WANNA DO”?

In the mid 1960s, there was a song which became very popular. It said, “You gotta go where you wanna go; Do what you wanna do; With whoever you wanna do it with.”
To the detriment of mankind, many have followed this un-Godly advice. However, God’s Word commands something quite different. God’s Son, Jesus Christ, the Messiah, came to redeem His people from their sins. As prophesied, He was born of a virgin. At the age of about thirty years, He began his public ministry. Within about three years, He would die as the final, sinless sacrificial Lamb of God on the cross at Calvary. He would die to pay the penalty for His people’s sins. He would be buried. Three days and three nights later, He would rise from the dead, fulfilling all the ancient prophesies concerning God’s Messiah. During His public ministry, one of the hostile, pharisaical lawyers asked Him a question designed to discredit Him. The question dealt with the Ten Commandments God had given to His people many centuries earlier, on Mount Sinai.
“Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:35-40)
Notice: Jesus Christ did not encourage people to go “do what you wanna do.” In fact, God’s commandments restrict certain actions to occur only between two people married to each other. Instead of lust, driven by fallen human wills, God commands genuine faithful sacrificial love to both God and mankind. Serious consequences shall accrue to those who fail to ask God to forgive them and cleanse them from sin. Scripture issues the following serious warning to those who persist in following their own way.
“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” (Romans 1:18-20).
Jesus Christ, who died to save sinners, gives the following wonderful invitation to those who are burdened by sin.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Have you insisted on doing “what you wanna do,” or have you asked Jesus Christ for rest from this deadly burden?
