WORD OF HIS POWER

Which Ruler Impresses You with the Word of His Power?

Some rulers wield great influence over men. Yet even as millions follow those rulers, they ignore another ruler of far greater power.

“God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high…” (Hebrews 1:1‑3).

This is God the Son. He created the universe and holds it together by the word of His power. He has but to withdraw this sustaining power to destroy it all.

Scripture tells us that He will eventually do this.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (2 Peter 3:9‑10)

Here the apostle Peter is speaking to those of God’s chosen people who are already saved. He explains why God the Son patiently withholds both the blessing and judgment associated with Christ’s return. It is because the full outworking of His saving grace is not yet complete. Jesus, the Messiah, had discussed this process with His disciples before His redeeming death and resurrection for sinners.

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37)

He now patiently waits for each one, who shall be the recipient of His saving grace, to come. He has promised to receive all who do. However, He has but to speak the word of His power to conclude this time of grace.

If you have not yet come, how long will you presume upon the patient word of His power?
