WILLFULLY IGNORANT

“…there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men (2 Peter 2:3-7).”

This Bible quote prophesies proliferation of willful ignorance regarding things that are obvious. It reminds us that, in Noah’s time, God destroyed most of humanity by the great flood. It then warns us that, in the future, God will deal with the willful ignorance of wicked men by fiery judgment.

What are some of the ways mankind shows willful ignorance?

He shows willful ignorance by denying that life in the womb is human. Tell me: if it’s not human, what is it? Of course it’s human!

He shows willful ignorance by rejecting God’s incredibly intelligent design of human life while accepting the intelligent design of Stonehenge based only on its far less complex organization. It is obvious to a child that even a wristwatch will never emerge from “billions of years” of random chance and natural selection. However, the far more incredulous belief, that human life came about this way, is eventually drummed into that same child through years of incessant repetition and indoctrination.

He shows willful ignorance by rejecting God’s obvious purpose to proliferate humanity through the legitimate union between Adam and Eve. As a result, an increasing number now promote an “alternate lifestyle” which God prohibits as an “abomination” (Leviticus 18:22). They are willfully ignorant of how to distinguish the wholesome from the perverse.

God the Father sent God His Son as the redeeming blood sacrifice for all who repent of sin. Is your mind captivated by willful ignorance? Come to Christ for mercy and forgiveness. God says of those who will, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).”
