Whenever painful things happen, man tends to blame God. Man asks questions which actually pass judgment on God Himself. “Where was God when this terrible thing happened?” “How could a loving God allow such a thing to happen?” These are questions which abound at difficult times. What we don’t realize is that the reason God doesn’t instantly obliterate all of us, right now, from the face of the earth, is due to His incredible mercy. God is not answerable to us. When we try to make Him answerable to us, for something we don’t like, we are showing the sinful nature that has infected all men since the original rebellion of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.
Scripture, however, warns us to humble ourselves before the creator of all things. “Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him (Psalm 2:10-12).”
Why should God be angry? If you just think about it for a moment, it should become obvious. We have locked Him out of our classrooms. We have ascribed His creation to evolution. We have forced our own human judges to remove His commandments from the courtroom. We have declared sodomy, which He condemns, to be a legitimate alternate lifestyle. Though we dedicate days of national coverage to the horrible murder of school children, we silently murder untold millions more, before they can ever be born. Those who declare Scripture’s truth regarding these issues are accused of “hate speech.” We, as a nation, are scorning God to His face!
Though not one of us has a right to God’s mercy, He has presented it to us at great cost to Himself.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).”
Dear reader: Have you cried out to God for mercy through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, or are you one of those who has banned Him from your life and then cursed Him for not being there to do your bidding?
