Are You on the Wrong Path?

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.  Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.” (Proverbs 14:12-13)

Have you ever been surprised that the good time you thought you were having turned to bitterness in the end?  Because Adam and Eve plunged humanity into sin and death, our natural hearts tend to seek the wrong things.  Scripture tells us:

“…the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” (Romans 8:7)

Only the power of God can give our carnal, dead hearts life.  This truth was the key point in a conversation  between Jesus and a man named Nicodemus.  Nicodemus was one of the Jewish rulers.  He came to Jesus by night with serious questions about eternal spiritual matters.  Jesus told him:

“… Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. … Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.” (John 3:3-7)

In one of His letters to Timothy, the apostle Paul described unsaved men as having the following attributes:

“… Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; …” (2 Timothy 3:4)

Pleasure without God always leads to ultimate sorrow, but there’s hope!  The psalmist, King David, through whom God the Son, Jesus the Messiah, came, said:

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

The power of God’s Holy Spirit breathes life into a person.  This causes repentance from sin and faith in Christ’s redeeming blood sacrifice.  He died, was buried, and rose again!  This is the path to eternal fullness of joy.  In this life, troubles and heartaches shall still come.  Our enemy will still seek to derail us at every turn.  But those who belong to Christ shall never perish.  Their eternal destiny shall be eternal joy!
