UNIFORMITARIANISM

Uniformitarianism:  Have You Been Deceived?

“Uniformitarianism, in geology, [is] the doctrine suggesting that Earth’s geologic processes acted in the same manner and with essentially the same intensity in the past as they do in the present and that such uniformity accounts for all geologic change.” (https://www.britannica.com/science/uniformitarianism)

Long ago, the Bible predicted that, in the last days, foolish men would adopt this uniformitarian theory.  They would do so in order to discredit the coming catastrophic judgment God promises.

“…there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,  And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3:3-7)

The flood of Noah’s day is God’s warning of an even greater catastrophic final judgment.  It shall eternally torment all who do not call upon the Savior of sinners, Jesus Christ, for mercy and forgiveness.

In 1961, Morris and Whitcomb published a book entitled The Genesis Flood.  It carefully examines dating techniques which assume uniformitarianism.  These dating techniques are invalidated by ignoring the flood of Noah’s day.  I have a copy of the 16th printing published in 1973 which indexes hundreds of authors whom they reference.

In more recent years, God has provided further evidence that the God-rejecting uniformitarian theory is invalid.  Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980.  The result was very rapid formation of some interesting geologic features.  These geologic features would be judged many millions of years old if evaluated using uniformitarian assumptions.  Such conclusions would obviously be false since these formations were rapidly produced, and observed by many, in our lifetime.  This is an embarrassment to uniformitarian theory which denies the role of catastrophic events in forming our earth’s geologic structures.  Incidentally, the multi-million-year estimates of the Grand Canyon’s age were produced using uniformitarian assumptions.

Many, today, are not anticipating the catastrophic judgment God promises.  Thus, it will take most of humanity by surprise.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.” (2 Peter 3:10)

Are you ready?  Will you ignore God’s warning of eternal judgment?  Or, have you sought God’s mercy, based on Jesus Christ’s sacrificial death at Calvary, followed by His subsequent resurrection?
