“TOO PERSONAL TO DISCUSS?”

Should it be too personal to discuss?

A Christian I know, once tried to discuss salvation with a beloved family member.  That family member responded, “I consider my relationship with Christ too personal to discuss.”  Since then I have known or heard of others, even in the political realm, who make similar claims.

Is a saving relationship with Christ really something that should be “too personal to discuss?”  Listen to what Jesus Himself said about the answer to this question.

“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.  But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32-33).

“Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels” (Mark 8:38).

Jesus commanded His disciples to be very outspoken about their relationship with Him.  Speaking to them he said,

“… Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15).

He directed them to accompany their words with the very public symbol of baptism.  Baptism is a public declaration of a person’s faith in God the son, Jesus Christ, who shed His blood to save sinners who come to Him in repentance.

“And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:18-20).

Does this mean we earn our salvation by doing this?  Absolutely not!  However, those who truly belong to Christ will desire to obey His command to speak openly about Him.

“What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops” (Matthew 10:27).

Dear reader:  Do you speak publicly about your genuine relationship with Christ, or is the absence of such a relationship too personal to discuss?
