GOD’S TINY TOOLS FOR POWERFUL VICTORY!

DO HIS TINY TOOLS HUMBLE YOU?

Mankind has a huge problem with pride.  Early in man’s history, the Devil sought to implant pride in the hearts of Adam and Eve.  He said that, by disobeying God, they would become like gods themselves! (Genesis 3:5)  Since then, tiny, fallen man has sought greatness for himself and despised God’s true greatness.  God tells us:

“A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.” (Proverbs 29:23)

Because God is so good, He frequently chooses to use tiny tools to humble the devastating arrogance of proud people.

“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;” (1 Corinthians 1:27)

Scripture is filled with examples of this strategy.  During conquest of the land which God had promised them, Israel faced many enemies who’d joined forces against them.  The enemies’ armies were far superior to Israel’s.  However, God often used typically tiny elements from His creation to conquer great enemies.

On one occasion, five kings of the Amorites had united to destroy the Gibeonites whom Israel was obligated to protect.  God humbled everyone by weaponizing hailstones against the invaders.

“…the LORD cast down great stones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died: they were more which died with hailstones than they whom the children of Israel slew with the sword.” (Joshua 10:11)

On another occasion, God used tiny creatures to conquer Israel’s enemies.  Have you ever heard of a hornet brigade?  God reminded Israel that He had used hornets to conquer their enemies.

“… and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.  And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, …” (Joshua 24:11-12)

However, God’s most incredible victory against man’s devastating pride was accomplished by God the Son, Jesus Christ.  By a miraculous virgin birth, He became a tiny baby.  He grew.  He preached the truth.  He was crucified.  He died.  He was buried.  Three days later He rose victoriously from the dead!  God conquers lethal pride as He humbles a person to repent of sin and trust Christ as Lord and Savior.
