THE SEED

Has THE SEED Produced Eternal Life Within You?

God created the heavens and the earth, populating the earth with many living things.  God gave one command of prohibition to Adam concerning the fruit of one particular tree.  It was called “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” God said,

“Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”  (Genesis 2:16-17)

Soon the Devil, having rebelled against his creator, tempted Adam and Eve to do likewise by eating that fruit.  Together, they both ate that fruit, thereby introducing physical and spiritual death, into the human race.

After rebuking Adam, Eve, and the Devil, God next presented what we now know as the first gospel message.  He said to the devil,

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

Notice that Scripture refers to Eve’s “seed” as a singular masculine individual.  Though, initially, it may seem to merely reference Adam’s and Eve’s multitude of descendants, it’s far more significant than that!  Scripture clearly indicates that this is speaking of God the Son, Jesus Christ, who would come as Savior.  He would offer Himself as a perfect sacrifice in payment of sin’s penalty.

In the centuries that followed, God frequently referred to this singular seed.  Consider one such reference God made when telling Abraham that, in the following year, his aged wife, Sarah, would bear him a son named Isaac.

“And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.”  (Genesis 17:19)

In his letter to Galatian Christians, the Apostle Paul makes it clear that Christ is this “seed.”

“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” (Galatians 3:16)

Many celebrate Christ’s incarnation each December.

This seed died for sinners.  Has God planted Him in your heart by enabling you to trust Him as Lord and Savior?
