THE Nth SENSE

What Shall You Sense Throughout Eternity

Mathematicians often use “N” to represent a number not yet specified.  Here, I’m using “N” to represent a number assigned to some sense, beyond the five we already know.  We often refer to our five senses of taste, touch, smell, hearing and sight.  Are there others that might be possible?  Sometimes people refer to “a sixth sense.”  I’ve never heard it precisely defined.  However, it generally represents an additional pathway for sensing information.

Scripture speaks of experiences awaiting Christians in their eternal future.

“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:9-10)

Apparently our present minds and five senses aren’t capable of even imagining the delights God has planned for His elect.  In eternity, will He give us an Nth sense, or, perhaps, many additional senses, to enhance our delight in Him?

For whom are these delights prepared?  The above Scripture tells us:  They are prepared for those who “love Him.”  Another Scripture tells us that if we don’t love Him, we are not saved, but under a curse.  It shall be exacted by Christ, Himself!

“If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema [accursed] Maranatha [our Lord cometh].” (1 Corinthians 16:22)

Why do true Christians love Christ?  We love Him because He first loved us.  He gave Himself for us in a cruel, substitutionary, sacrificial, redeeming death, burial, and resurrection.  The apostle Paul refers to this in His letter to the Galatians.

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20)

How can you tell whether or not you truly love Christ?  Jesus said:

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” (John 10:27)

“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (John 14:15)

If God were to allow Christian’s enhanced ability to delight in His eternal love, what about the unsaved?  Could enhanced senses intensify their eternal torment?

Time is short!  Eternity never ends!  Do you truly love God, the Son, Jesus Christ, the only Savior of sinners?  Or, is your heart burdened over what lies ahead?  If so, Jesus said,

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
