THE BIBLE IS GOD’S WORD

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:19-21)
Recently, some fellow Christians and I interacted with a lady who selectively believed only certain parts of the Bible. This individual treated the Bible as authoritative in those matters that supported her own beliefs. However, when presented with Scripture refuting her other beliefs, she denied that the Bible is God’s Word. Rather, she claimed it was only a book written by men for profit.
The Scripture, above, shows that God selected “holy men” to record His words in the Bible. They did not write based on their own will but only as they were “moved by the Holy Ghost.” In fact, far from “making monetary profit,” many of these men died as martyrs for the sake of Christ. So much for the profit motive!
Scripture teaches us that God’s Word is an essential resource in redeeming fallen sinners to faith in Christ.
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:13-17)
The authenticity of God’s Word, the Bible, underlies the importance of belief in Christ. Is your faith tied to the authentic Word of God? If so, you don’t have the option to believe only parts of the Bible. All of the Bible is God’s Word which is essential to our faith!
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Faith in God’s Word is an “all-or-nothing” matter. Don’t jeopardize your eternal soul by picking and choosing to believe only selected portions of God’s Word.
