Have   You   Recognized   Him   as   Your  Lord    and    Savior?

History’s central figure is Christ, the Messiah.  Scripture calls him “The Word.”  He’s God the Son expressing Himself as the redeemer.  He existed before history began and He created all things.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The same was in the beginning with God.  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  In him was life; and the life was the light of men.  And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:1-5)

Early in Scripture, God rebukes the tempter, Satan, predicting his defeat by the seed of the woman (Christ).  The cost?  Christ’s future redeeming death on the cross.

“And the LORD God said unto the serpent, … I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:14-15)

Though, most never come to know Him, scripture reveals some who recognized Him as Lord and Savior.  The virgin, Mary, praised the Lord Jesus, in her womb, as Savior.

“And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.” (Luke 1:46-47)

After Jesus’ birth, when Joseph and Mary brought baby Jesus to the temple, Simeon recognized Him as God’s promised Savior.

“Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,  Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:  For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,” (Luke 2:28-30)

Immediately following, prophetess Anna entered.

“And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.” (Luke 2:38)

Years later, John the Baptist declared who Jesus was.

“The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29)

During Christ’s earthly ministry Peter proclaimed Jesus’ Messianic status.

“And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

Before raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus asked Martha if she believed who He was.

“She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.” (John 11: 27)
