Are you Anchored, or Adrift in a Sea of Relativism?

“Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, …” (Hebrews 6:17-19)
In His Word, the Bible, God provides promises and instructions which serve as “an anchor of the soul.” However, the enemy of God’s people repeatedly manufactures philosophies denying the authority of God’s absolute truth. The foundation of these philosophies is “relativism” which denies the very existence of absolute truth. Instead, they claim that all things are relative to, and dependent upon, the context of whichever moral code one chooses. Thus, what’s considered good in one moral system may be evil in another. An individual embraces relativistic thinking to legitimize doing what is “right in his own eyes.” Such people reject God’s absolute authority, becoming “fools” in God’s eyes.
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: …” (Proverbs 12:15).
By rejecting the authority of God’s Word, mankind is set adrift in the stormy sea of relativistic thinking. Man’s God-given conscience becomes severely impaired. Evil behavior, such as murder, is no longer considered forbidden. Instead, new names and expressions are created attempting to camouflage that which is evil. Perhaps you’ve heard that it’s now O.K. to “abort a fetus.” Perhaps you’ve heard of “mercy killing.” Today, many other euphemistic expressions exist referring to actions clearly forbidden in God’s Word. The Bible strongly warns against such perversions which perpetrate many other forms of wickedness throughout the land. For example, regarding fornication God says,
“Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.” (Leviticus 19:29)
Haven’t we all heard of great physical violence, abuse, and murders resulting from rejection of God’s authority in these matters? Isn’t it time to reject relativism and flee to God’s absolute authority as an “anchor of the soul”?
In Eden, Satan introduced relativism by questioning and denying God’s authority. As the new year begins, will you submit to God’s authority, trusting Christ as Savior and anchor of your soul? Or shall Satan deceive you, as he did Eve, with relativism?
