ONE EVENT HAPPENS TO THEM ALL

Will this One Event Take You by Surprise?

There are billions of people in this world which face an incredible diversity of life experiences.  Some live in poverty.  Some live in mansions.  Some are strong.  Some are weak.  Some use lots of ketchup when they eat (the author for example).  Some don’t like ketchup!  However, in spite of the many different experiences that people face, one experience is inescapable.  The Bible tells us that one event happens to them all.

“This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.” (Ecclesiastes 9:3)

No matter who you are, where you live, or what you do, every person eventually faces death.  God says,

“…it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27)

Isn’t it amazing that, though everyone is under the sentence of death, few spend much time thinking about it?  Why is this?  Perhaps it is because, deep in the heart, each person knows that, with death, comes judgment.  That can be scary!

Early in man’s history, Adam and Eve sinned.  This rendered each of their descendents subject to a sinful heart and the judgment that it earns.  Just as God did with the fallen angels, He could have let all of mankind bear His righteous judgment.  However, God the Son, Jesus Christ, died and rose again, to bear this judgment for the sins of His people.  He, alone, can forgive sin.  Even our “good works” are “filthy rags” in God’s sight. (Isaiah 64:6)

Jesus said,

“All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:37)

But what happens to those who do not come to Christ?  They shall be “cast out” and endure God’s judgment forever.  Jesus said,

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” (John 3:36)

Is the Lord Jesus Christ your Savior, or will God initiate your eternal judgment when you face that “one event?”
