NEW!

Most of us like new things. Old possessions, and even our lives, often become worn with age or broken because of misuse. When a new year comes, many make new year’s resolutions hoping that failures of the past can be set aside, and a new start made. Generally, however, we soon realize that the old failures tend to perpetuate themselves into the New Year. Resolutions are quickly broken, and the desolate cycle repeats once again.

We cannot solve this problem on our own. God’s Holy Word, the Bible, reveals a crucial fact. We all enter this world spiritually dead.

“… by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12).

There is only one solution to the deadly works of our dead spirits. We need to be given spiritual life! However, have you ever known a dead person who can make himself or herself alive? No! That’s impossible! But there’s good news! The Scripture, quoted above, which explains how we all ended up dead in sin, continues with a victorious solution for all who come to Christ with broken and repentant hearts!

“…For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:17).

Here Scripture shows that, just as it took only one man to plunge his whole race into sin, so it took only one man to redeem all repentant sinners. However, not just any man could accomplish this miracle of redemption. Only the Lord Jesus Christ, who is God the Son, could offer Himself as the perfect blood sacrifice to redeem His people. Those who cry to Him for mercy are given new hearts and desires.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Do your desires show that Jesus Christ has actually changed your heart, or are you trusting your church to save you even though you still have no particular love for righteousness or the truth of God’s Word?

Will you continue expecting new results from your old dead heart, or will you ask the Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness and eternal life?
