NATIONAL RESTORATION

God’s Requirements for National Restoration

My fellow countrymen: Most of you have a fervent desire for national restoration in these difficult days. Many of you had placed your hopes in the recent elections. Some of you are ecstatic about the results and some are disappointed. Although God may motivate His people to righteously influence politics, it is not politics that will restore our nation. Only God Himself can do that. His Word says,

“Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14:34).

“When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn” (Proverbs 29:2).

How can our nation attain righteousness? Its people and leaders must be righteous! Although only God, Himself, can make a person righteous, He has chosen to accomplish this through His people who proclaim His Word. The Bible teaches that righteousness comes only through faith in Jesus Christ the Savior (Romans 3:19-26). It also shows us that God has chosen His Word, the Bible, as the conduit through which He implants that faith in a human heart.

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17).

God produces righteous individuals one person at a time. Dear brothers and sisters in Christ: If we belong to Him, we will love Him. If we love Him, He will motivate us, regarding the urgency of our mission, to present His gospel of righteousness to those around us who are yet dead in sin. He shed His blood to redeem His people from their sins. That’s why He came (Matthew 1:21)! The apostle Paul said,

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them” (Romans 1:16-19).

Are we pursuing our Father’s business as was our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (Luke 2:49), or are we acting as though we are ashamed of His gospel?
