“I BOW TO NOBODY!”

Will You Bow?

Have you ever heard someone say, “I bow to nobody!”?  Years ago, conversing with a coworker, he indicated that his top priority was to “look out for ‘number-one’.”  By this he meant that doing what he wanted was more important than anything else.  Bowing his will to anybody else would have violated his supreme objective.

People who say “I bow to nobody” are actually declaring themselves to be God.  However, there is a problem with this.  The God that created them does not share their self delusion!  He declares,

“I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.” (Isaiah 42:8)

Ironically, man’s fallen will, which refuses to bow to God, makes him a slave who bows to an evil master.  One day the Lord Jesus was speaking to the proud Scribes and Pharisees of Israel.  They used the following statement to indicate that they rejected Him as God the Son.

“… we have one Father, even God.” (John 8:41)

Listen to Jesus’ reply.

“Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.  Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. …” John 8:42‑44)

Into this world of fallen mankind, God the Son, Jesus Christ the Lord, came as the sacrificial Savior.  He died and rose again to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).  For those who receive Him and bow to Him as Lord, He is their Savior.  For those who reject Him, He will be their judge and they shall bow to Him.

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9‑11)

Will you bow to His loving mercy now, or shall you bow to His eternal judgment later?
