HOW SHALL WE ESCAPE!

Shall You Escape?

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;” (Hebrews 2:3)

If you’re reading this, you’ve not yet died.  When physical death occurs, the individual is assigned to one of two eternal destinies.  When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, they died spiritually and would have rightfully been sentenced to eternal condemnation.  All human descendents inherited their spiritually dead nature thereby deserving this condemnation.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”  (Romans 5:12)

Prior to mankind’s fall, Satan, and the angels following him, rebelled against God and fell.  Contrary to some humans, these devils grudgingly believe in God’s existence.  They tremble in fear as they await their final condemnation.

“Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” (James 2:19)

Devils never received an opportunity to repent or escape just condemnation.  God could have righteously treated humans the same way.  But He didn’t!  Right after Adam and Eve sinned, God made animal sacrifices to provide coverings for Adam and Eve.  He used this to prophetically symbolize the ultimate sin-bearing sacrifice of God the Son, Jesus Christ.  He was born of a virgin.  He lived a perfect sinless life.  He submitted Himself, as a substitute, to the infinite judgment of sin due to Adam’s race.  God applies this payment to all who repent of their sinfulness, and ask for God’s great offer of salvation.  This salvation required the incredibly torturous death of Jesus Christ, the infinitely holy Son of God in the flesh.

The opening Scripture of this article asks every human being, yet living, an urgent question.  The answer to that question is that no one who neglects God’s great salvation shall ever escape eternal torment.  If you die rejecting Him, you shall be tormented forever.  If you read Matthew chapter 25, you will discover the final day when all humanity appears before God.  God separates them into two distinct groups.  One group is placed on His right hand side.  The other is placed on His left hand side.  Those on the right are true followers of Christ.  To them He says:

“… Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:” (Matthew 25:34)

But, if you have neglected God’s great salvation, you shall never have hope.  He shall sentence you as follows:

“Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” (Matthew 25:41)
