ARE YOU TASTING WITHOUT DRINKING?

Are You just Tasting the Gospel?

Have you ever known someone with a terminal disease? Suppose you had one, and you knew of a doctor that could provide you an elixir which would guarantee complete healing. What would you do?

Each of us does, in fact, have a terminal disease but there is a treatment that must be swallowed to cure it. Though there are many charlatans who claim the ability to provide this cure, there is only one doctor with a cure that really works.

Most folks don’t like to discuss this disease and even fewer are willing to admit having it. Those who do are often shunned, mocked, and even killed. God calls this disease “sin” and makes it clear that there is only one Great Physician, Jesus Christ (John 14:6, Matthew 9:12), who can give us the life giving water of His Word (John 4:10), to cure it.

But some, when they visit this Physician, taste His life giving Gospel cure without swallowing it. They attend church. They may listen to a sermon on sin and sense their need for redemption by the blood of Christ. Perhaps they even join the church and keep tasting the gospel until they die without ever drinking it. Some may become embarrassed when people start calling them “fanatics.” They spit out the life giving water, which they have never swallowed, and abandon it forever. The eternal destiny of such a person is frightening. The book of Hebrews says: “For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put Him to an open shame” (Hebrews 6:4-6). Those who do this have never actually trusted in Christ’s blood sacrifice for sinners nor yielded to Him as Master, Savior, and Lord.

Professing Christian: Have you drunk deeply, or only tasted Christ’s life giving salvation? Beware. Until you drink it down, you have no eternal life and are in danger of spitting it out forever.
