ARE YOU AN ETERNAL FOLLOWER?

Have you ever wondered what will happen to you when you die? I have. It seems like kind of an important question! After all, we spend only 70 years, or so, in this life, but our existence, after we pass from this life, will be eternal. It will never end. Think of that!

We get caught up in this life. We spend great energy providing food, clothing, and shelter for our families. Yet, sadly, we use only our meager left-over energy to deal with eternal matters and, sometimes, trust others to handle these issues for us.

Some trust their church, or their ministers, or their priests. Some trust their own good works. The other day, I spoke to a lady I had not previously met. When I asked her where she thought she would go after this life is over, she confidently asserted that she would go to Heaven because she had always been a good person. However, her confidence seemed to melt as she considered the words of Jesus. He said “there is none righteous” (Romans 3:10), and that He didn’t come to save the (self) righteous (Luke 5:32). For those of us who think we are righteous, Isaiah declares that “our righteousnesses are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).

Many with false confidence regarding their eternal destiny ignore the words of Jesus. He said,

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand” (John 10:27-28).

Do you follow Him? Do you heed His voice in your daily life, or do you profane His name to add emphasis to your own words? Do you lie? Are you unfaithful to your spouse? Do you embrace sodomy? Do you steal (even little things)? Such actions are not characteristic of His sheep that follow Him.

Ponder this carefully. If you are not yet an eternal follower of Christ, cry to Him for mercy and forgiveness of sins based on His substitutionary blood sacrifice at Calvary!
