A BLESSED SLAVE

God’s Redeemed are  Blessed Slaves

Slaves serve their masters! Some masters are good and kind. Some are evil and cruel. What kind of master do you serve?

“Oh, you’ve got it all wrong,” you say. “I’m not a slave to anyone. I’m a free person!” Actually, you’re not. You’re a slave like the rest of us. The Apostle Paul said,

“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” (Romans 6:16).

The word “servants,” here, comes from the Greek word “doulos” meaning slave. Repeatedly, Paul used this same word to describe himself as a slave of Christ. You see, there are only two choices. You are either a love-slave of Christ, or you are a pitiful slave of the Devil. On one occasion, Christ was speaking to some folks who were boasting that they were free because Abraham was their father. He told them,

“Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do…” (Romans 6:44).

Unlike Paul, those folks were not slaves of Christ. They were slaves of their father, the Devil, and were doing his bidding.

If you ask Christ to apply His sacrificial blood payment to your sin debt, He will set you free from that debt and from the Devil who stirs up his own evil lusts in your heart. Having been set free from your evil master, you will be bound, forever, to the Lord Jesus Christ, your new Savior and Master, who loves you. You will serve Him because of the new desires He implants within you. If you don’t, it shows you have not yet been set free to be His blessed slave.

Whose slave are you?
