GOD’S POWERFUL WORD

Have You Been Awed by God’s Powerful Word?

Jesus Christ is the living, powerful Word, God the Son.  Once a man brought his demon possessed son to Jesus.  He pleaded with Jesus for help:

“Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is lunatick, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water.  And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.” (Matthew 17:15‑16)

Even though Jesus’ disciples were unable to cast out the demon, Jesus did.

“Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me.  And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour.” (Matthew 17:17-18)

Satan’s demons are very powerful.  Once, some false exorcists attempted to cast out a demon.  They even used Jesus’ name.

“And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?  And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.” (Acts 19:15‑16)

In Jude’s letter to Christians, he warned of false teachers who presumed to have great powers of exorcism.  He reminded them that even Michael, the archangel, didn’t claim such power.

”Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.  Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.” (Jude 1:8‑9).

Last month, my wife and I were at the home of a young boy experiencing a frightening demonic attack.  We prayed asking the Lord for deliverance.  We urged the little boy to pray also.  Between agonized gasps he did.  Then we read, aloud, Ephesians chapter two, and other Scriptures which declare Christ’s authority over all things.  Slowly, the boy’s gasps and terror-filled eyes gave place to peace, a smile, and thanksgiving to the Savior.

Jesus Christ died to save His people from their sins.  Only He can save a soul from eternal destruction.  Only He can terminate a demonic attack.

Have you asked Christ, God’s powerful Word, to forgive and save you?
