GOD GLORIFIED THE JUSTIFIED

SHALL YOU BE GLORIFIED?

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” (Romans 8:29-30)

Notice first that God’s above actions are expressed in the past tense.  How can this be?  None of us were yet born when God inspired men to set down Holy Scripture!  However, God’s perfect plan was already complete for all who would be born.  When God sent Moses to deliver the Israelites from the Egyptians, He presented Himself as the ever present one.

“And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” (Exodus 3:14)

Jesus Christ, the final deliverer of all His people, presented Himself as this same ever present one.

“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.”(John 8:58)

In several previous articles we’ve examined the first four links in God’s immutable plan for the ages.  We’ve discovered that no part of God’s plan shall ever fail.  Today we might express this by saying, “When God planned it, it was as good as done!”  Today we see that the last link in this plan, follows the first without exception,

“For whom he did foreknow, … them he also glorified.” (Romans 8:29-30)

Before creation, God’s plan was complete.  The names of all who would receive God’s eternal life of glory were written in the Lamb’s book of life.  Scripture describes the awful things that await those,

“… whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world…” (Revelation 17:8, see also Revelation 13:8).

The discussion of those to be glorified by God’s plan immediately follows the Scripture passage introducing this article.

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?  Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” (Romans 8:31-34)

God’s elect are secure, forever, in His hands.  The apostle John records,

“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” (John 10:28)
