FOOLS SAY WHAT!?

What do fools say? The Bible answers this question clearly. “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God… (Psalm 14:1a).” Many fools are very intelligent. They devise elaborate schemes to convince themselves that God’s creation could have come about without God.

Notice the consequence of denying God which the second part of the above passage describes: “They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good (Psalm 14:1b).” This is consistent with an ancient Bible prophesy. “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away (2 Timothy 3:1-5).”

God was right! We’re clearly living in “perilous times.” Men have, indeed, become narcissistic “lovers of their own selves.” They crave ever more things. They boast of their greatness. They blaspheme God and exclude Him from their thoughts. We see little 3 year olds allowed to defy parental authority with no immediate consequences. They are ungrateful. We have arrogant high-level government officials who use their power to advance corruption and lewd pleasure.

This all results from denying God. After all, if you don’t think He exists, you have no incentive to do what He says or avoid what He prohibits. We may blame various political views and government strategies as the cause of our problems. However, the root cause of these destructive views and strategies is a rejection of God. Scripture says, “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34).” The same rejection of God, which consigns individuals to eternal punishment, will eventually disrupt and destroy any nation.

Thankfully, even though God will ultimately punish the unrepentant, He is longsuffering and full of mercy to those who call upon Him (Numbers 14:18). He even sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the blood penalty for sin in order for His repentant people to be set free from sin’s eternal death.

Are you a fool, or have you called out to God for mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ?
