FACT CHECKER

Deceived by a Lying Fact Checker?

Have you ever noticed that some so called “fact checkers” actually present lies in order to bury the truth?

The Bible presents the earliest recorded occurrence of this in Genesis chapter 3.  God had created the heavens and the earth and everything in them, including Adam.  He then placed Adam in the Garden of Eden and gave Him the following truthful warning.

“… Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:16-17)

After that, God created Eve from Adam’s rib.  (see Genesis 2:18-25)

As we come to Genesis Chapter 3,   we are introduced to the first recorded deceptive “fact checker,” Satan.  He was disguised as a serpent.  His very first recorded statement questioned God’s spoken truth.

“… And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” (Genesis 3:1)

After Eve responded, this self appointed “fact checker,” Satan, blatantly lied and told Eve that God’s statement was false.

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5)

Satan declared God’s truth to be false and gave Him a big red X!  One can almost hear the raucous buzzing sound modern TV “fact checkers” use when they declare something false.

The rest is history.  Adam and Eve both disobeyed God and ate the fruit.  All of the evil that has plagued the human race, resulted from this.  It was a fall into sin for which infinite righteous punishment was due from God.  Due to man’s inability to pay this price, such punishment would normally consign mankind to eternal punishment.  However, God the Son, Jesus Christ, willingly paid this punishment for all who trust Him for salvation.  This included salvation for the hated publican of Jesus day.

“And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” (Luke 18:13)

Commenting on this, Jesus said:

“I tell you, this man went down to his house justified …” (Luke 18:14)

Today, much of what God declares to be evil, is now being called “good.”  Those who do this have assumed the role of a lying “fact checker.”  Will you listen to them, or will you repent and seek God’s truth in His Word, the Bible?
