NASA “DART” Cannot Alter God’s Plan

On September 26, 2022, a spacecraft from NASA’s “Double Asteroid Redirection Test” (DART) project, completed its mission.  Launched in November 2021, it crashed into “Dimorphos,” an asteroid, over 500 feet in diameter.  Impact occurred almost seven million miles from earth at approximately 15,000 miles per hour. The purpose of this crash was to see if such a satellite could change an asteroid’s trajectory.  According to a NASA administrator, “…DART represents an unprecedented success for planetary defense…”.  During the coming months, the Dimorphos trajectory will be monitored to see how much its course actually changed.  They deem this technology necessary to protect our earth from a devastating asteroid impact.

As I considered the motivation for this test, I was reminded of God’s sovereignty in all things.  All the heavenly bodies were created by God who says of Himself:

“Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,  Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:  Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.” (Isaiah 46:9-11)

There is nothing that occurs contrary to God’s eternal plan.  History is full of examples.  God sent the worldwide flood which destroyed all but eight people whom He preserved in the ark.  He conquered Israel’s enemies by hailstones (Joshua 10:11), hornets (Exodus 23:8), and other events often attributed to ”mother nature.”

God warns that men have sought to put these “natural disasters” out of their minds as irrelevant.  But God shall yet send a cosmos-wide fiery destruction consigning all ungodly men to eternal fire.

“… there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.  For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:  Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:  But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men”. (2 Peter 3:3-7)

God the Son, Jesus Christ, bled and died at Calvary and rose again to save all who trust and follow Him.

Unless you ask Him to save you, He shall cast you into the eternal fire in that day of judgment.  No government program like DART will deliver you from it.
