Has the Galilee Message Stirred You?

The night before Jesus died to save sinners, He told His disciples He’d rise from the dead.  Then He’d  meet them in Galilee.

“And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.  But after that I am risen, I will go before you into  Galilee.” (Mark 14:27‑28)

After His resurrection, Jesus repeatedly reminded His disciples of this important meeting.  The angel in the tomb told the women to go remind Jesus’ disciples of the Galilee meeting. (Matthew 28:6-7)

Then, as they obeyed, Jesus, Himself, appeared to them and repeated this command.

“Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.” (Matthew 28:10)

At the meeting, Jesus’ eleven disciples worshipped Him.  However, some, at the meeting, doubted.  Jesus then dispelled these doubts as He declared His authority over all things.  He then commanded them to spread the good news to all nations.

“Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.  And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:16-20)

Some believe that the meeting Paul the apostle later described to the Corinthian Christians, was this meeting at Galilee.  Paul recalled, for them, that over five hundred brethren had simultaneously seen the risen Christ.

“After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.” (1 Corinthians 15:6)

The Galilee meeting was one of Christ’s last recorded meetings before ascending into Heaven.  This suggests that many would have had time to travel to Galilee and hear Christ’s command to “teach all nations.”
