BE SURE YOUR “???” WILL FIND YOU OUT

What Will Find You Out on Judgment Day?

“But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.” (Numbers 32:23)

It is SIN that shall always find us out.  Any sin that anyone commits shall ultimately be punished.

God had commanded Israel to go in and conquer the land that He had given to them.  However, He knew all about their inherent tendency to disobey, so He warned them that disobedience would be sin.  He made it clear that, ultimately, no one ever gets away with sin.

Because God created all things, He has the right to command obedience in all things.  He considers even partial obedience as disobedience and declares it to be “sin.”  Because God is always perfectly righteous, He upholds His own righteous laws and commands.  He warns that no one sins with impunity.

This is serious.  All of humanity took on a sinful nature when Adam, the progenitor of all humanity, sinned.

“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”  (Romans 5:12)

Since any single sin is against an infinite creator, the punishment, even for just one sin, is infinite.    Since we are finite, it would take us an eternity to pay the punishment for even one sin.  Multiply this eternity by the many sins we’ve each committed, and it becomes staggering beyond comprehension!  So, how can anyone escape such a horrible destiny?  God the Son, Jesus Christ, took that burden on Himself for all who trust Him.

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Now then we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”  (2 Corinthians 5:17-21)

In the end, God shall gather all humanity before His great judgment seat.  To those who have cried out in repentance to Him for forgiveness, He shall say:

“… Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:”  (Matthew 25:34)

But, to those who’ve ignored or rejected Him, He shall say:

“…Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” (Matthew 25:41)

Whose work will you trust?  Will you trust your own “good” works?  Will you trust your church’s works for you?  Or will you trust Christ’s sacrificial work on the cross as the repentant sinner’s substitute?
