Each Animal Sacrifice was a Prophetic Pictures of the Ultimate Sacrifice

As a child I thought that, before Christ came, people were saved by keeping God’s law and sacrificing animals.  Only after Christ came, could they trust Him, instead.  But, according to Scripture, that’s wrong.  Even before Christ came, died, and rose again for sinners, saved people trusted Him.

Right after mankind’s fall in Eden, God promised man’s deliverance and Satan’s defeat by the seed of the woman.

“And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed … And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel”. (Genesis 3:14‑15)

Later, this promise was repeated to Abraham

“Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.” (Galatians 3:16)

Even before Christ came, God’s people trusted Him as the promised coming Messiah.  One such person was Simeon.

“And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.  And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.  And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,  Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,  Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:  For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, …” (Luke 2:25‑32)

Since man’s fall, no one ever gained salvation by keeping the law or sacrificing animals.

“Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” (Romans 3:20)

“For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.” (Hebrews 10:4)

Only Christ has ever saved anyone!

“For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2)
