ALMIGHTY BABY – YOUR ONLY HOPE

Do You Belong to this Almighty Baby?

Adam and Eve had sinned by doing what God commanded them not to do.  God had even warned them that disobedience would bring death that same day.

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:17)

Though their bodies continued to live for a while, their souls became spiritually dead.  They’d sinned against infinite God.  Therefore, they deserved infinite punishment.  As finite created beings, they could never hope to finish paying for their sin.  According to the apostle Peter, evil demons, who’d sinned previously, were already fearfully awaiting eternal punishment.

“… God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;” (2 Peter 2:4)

Adam had plunged all humanity into sin.  Their defiled natures became prone to sin against God.  They had no right to expect a different destiny than what demons anticipate.  However, shortly after Adam sinned, God provided the first indication that He would provide redemption for humans.  Speaking to Satan, God said,

“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

Then God sacrificed animals.  He used their skins to clothe Adam and Eve in their sinfulness.  This pictured Christ’s ultimate sacrifice on the cross.  Jesus Christ, God the Son, is the “seed” of the woman,  whose “heel” Satan would “bruise” many years later.

Millenia passed.  Mankind plunged ever deeper into sin.  Then God sent a flood to cleanse the earth.  By grace, He saved only Noah and his family in the ark.

Throughout subsequent centuries, Christ’s coming sacrificial death, as Savior, was pictured by millions of animal sacrifices.  Unless Christ came, none could ever be saved!

Finally, God’s perfect time came for Christ to be born of a virgin.  He was infinite, holy God in human flesh.  Only this mighty baby could, by His death, pay the infinite sin penalty for His people.  His birth was heralded by a host of angels.  They publicized it to lowly shepherds watching over flocks in the field.

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)

Do you realize that unless He becomes your Savior, this baby will become your eternal judge?

Has Christ’s Spirit caused your heart to cry out, “God be merciful to me a sinner?”  (see Luke 18:13)
