TIME TRAVEL TO THE FUTURE

FUTURE:  GOD’S ETERNAL DECREE TO YOU

In 1895, H.G. Wells published his famous science fiction novel, The Time Machine.  Of course, lacking God’s omniscience, he described a purely imaginary future.  If he’d written about events that God, Himself, predicts, he could have greatly improved the certainty of his speculations.

With this in mind, imagine, with me, that we’ve just used the time machine to visit the future.  God, Himself, has provided amazing details about the event we’re now observing.

“When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:  And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:  And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.” (Matthew 25:31-33)

You and I observe our future selves moving toward Christ who sits, before us, on the “throne of His glory.”  As we draw closer, some of us bear to our left and others to their right.  It’s interesting to note that those who go their own right way actually end up on Jesus’ left.

As all humanity finally stands before Him in two distinct groups, Jesus speaks with final, righteous authority.  To those on His right He says,

“… Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:” (Matthew 25:34).

Continuing to speak, He makes it clear that He had changed these individuals.  His life in their hearts had been demonstrated by their actions.

He next speaks frightening and dreadful words to those on His left.

“…Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” (Matthew 25:41).

In horrified shock, these, whom Christ has just sentenced to eternal doom, try to defend themselves.  They begin touting all the religious things they’ve done.  However, God the Son, Jesus, makes it clear that none of these actions demonstrated that Christ had made their dead hearts alive.  There is no appeal to His final edict.

Jesus Christ, the Savior, summarizes this event with the following words.

“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.” (Matthew 25:46)

As you contemplate this certain, future gathering, have you admitted your sinfulness, and asked Christ to mercifully change you?  Jesus said:

“I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.” (John 10:9)

Which group will you be in?
