Whose Signature is in Your Heart?

We live in a world where people use contracts to enforce promises. These contracts include a signature by the one making the promise.
When I was a young boy, I had asked Jesus to save me from my sins. I was very anxious to do that before it was too late. As time passed, however, I sometimes worried about whether or not I had done it right. Then, one day, I read a gospel tract. At the end of the tract was a place for the reader to sign. The signature was supposed to prove the reader was now saved. However, I didn’t think my signature on the tract would provide much assurance of salvation. I thought God’s signature, rather than mine, would provide a better guarantee. If I could have, I would have asked Him to sign it. Then I would have put His signature in a safe place where it would never get lost. I’d treasure it for the rest of my life!
Growing older, I discovered that God does provide His signature attesting to the salvation He has granted. However, His signature is not made with ink on paper. It cannot be made by churches or religious organizations, either, though some have wickedly charged money for such assurances.
God spoke through Jeremiah the prophet indicating that there was a coming Savior who would fulfill all of the Old Testament pictures provided by sacrificial lambs. The final sacrificial lamb would be the one we now call Jesus Christ, the Lord. He would die for the sins of His people. God’s writer of Hebrews quotes the prophet Jeremiah as follows:
“This is the covenant [contract] that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” (Hebrews 10:16-17)
God’s contract with His people is written and signed in their hearts. Salvation is not earned by works. However, its presence is evidenced by the works which God’s Holy Spirit initiates in a redeemed heart.
Scripture says:
“… shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.” (James 2:18)
Is God’s signature of salvation, in your heart, evidenced by the thoughts and actions originating therein?
