GOD’S ELECT CHOOSE DELIVERANCE

Your Choice is an Eternal Choice

Scripture emphatically describes all human beings as fallen creatures, guilty before a Holy God.

“Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. … For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; … Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 3:19, 23, 5:12)

God has clearly showed mankind what is right, and what is wrong.  But man, in wickedness, rebels.  Consequently, God holds each person in contempt of His authority.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” (Romans 1:18-20)

Because man’s heart is fallen, it’s devoid of any capability or desire to follow God.  Jesus said,

“… Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.” (John 6:65)

Thus, fallen man’s condition is dismal.  His fallen nature awaits God’s wrath with no ability to seek God’s forgiveness.

However, God chose to save some of mankind whom He calls His “elect”.  The word “elect” is translated from the Greek word “eklektos” which literally means “picked out” or “chosen.”  The choice originates with God.  Only as He grants life and faith, do His elect ones respond by choosing Him.  Man is responsible for his love of sin.  God, alone, redeems His elect from that sin by granting them faith and life.

The false concept of “free will” denies the fall and declares man sovereign, rather than God.  An elderly Sunday School teacher, we’ve known for decades, recently wrote to us:

“Just as Jesus set aside His Deity, so the Father has set aside His sovereignty over man.”

God, Himself, denies such heresy!

“… I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.  So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”                    (Romans 9:15-16)

Has God given you a sorrow for sin, causing you to choose His unmerited forgiveness?  If so, thank Him, from the bottom of your heart, for choosing you!
