Toward Which of these Two Eternal Destinies are You Hurtling?

“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, …” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)
The word “world,” here, is translated from the Hebrew word “owlam.” In other passages, this same Hebrew word is also translated, “ever,” “everlasting,” “perpetual,” and “evermore.” God has set, in man’s heart, the concept that the spirit of each individual shall last forever. This realization causes human individuals to contemplate the question: “What happens when I die?”
Originally, death did not exist. It came about when Adam and Eve disobeyed God and ate the fruit He commanded them not to eat. He had warned them that disobedience would bring death. It did. Scripture records:
“For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.” (1 Corinthians 15:21)
Fallen mankind tends to have a nagging fear of what he or she shall experience, eternally, after death. This fear is so great that some try to deny that their conscious existence shall continue after death. I once had a conversation, about death, with an Air Force colonel for whom I was providing computer modeling support. He said, “I believe that when you’re dead, you’re dead and that’s that.” He was trying to believe his spirit would entirely cease to exist. However, God the Son, Jesus, the Savior, emphatically denied this point of view.
“When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.” (Matthew 25:31-33)
Jesus goes on to explain that He shall say, to His sheep:
“… Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:” (Matthew 25:34)
But, to those who’ve failed to trust and follow Him as Savior and Lord, He shall say:
“… Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:” (Matthew 25:41)
Clearly there are two drastically different destinies that human spirits shall experience, and they are both eternal.
Toward which of these two destinies are you heading?
