HOW MUCH IS GOVERNED BY GOD’S WILL?

Is Your Will Subject to God’s Will?

God controls kings’ hearts even as they exercise their own wills.

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.” (Proverbs 21:1)

God’s will controls everything.  Nothing is exempt.  Those who trust Him do so as part of His eternal plan.

“In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:” (Ephesians 1:11)

Jesus told His disciples that He chose them – not vice versa.

“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” (John 15:16)

Those who become Christians were chosen by Him before the world began.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:  According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:  Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,” (Ephesians 1:3-5)

“But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:” (2 Thessalonians 2:13)

God purposed the sacrificial death of God, His Son, Jesus Christ, to save His people from their sins.  Their names were written in the Lamb’s book of life “from the foundation of the world.”  (see Revelation 13:8, 17:8)

Someone may say, “Well, if God determines everything I’ve no need to trust Him.”  This conclusion betrays a heart with no fear of God.  Perhaps God will use this article to plant His fear in you.  We’re all responsible for our sin but only God’s power can change our hearts.  God commands all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30).  Those who don’t will be lost forever.

If God’s Holy Spirit causes you to embrace Him, thank God for His miraculous work in you!
