IS YOUR GOD SOVEREIGN?

Has the Sovereign God Quickened Your Fallen Will by a New Birth?

Is your god really the sovereign God of the Bible?

Before answering, ask yourself this question:  “Is my god sovereign over my ‘free will?’ Does my god have the absolute right and power to conform my will to His?”

When Lucifer rebelled against God’s authority, God never offered him redemption.  Instead, He issued the following eternal condemnation:

“Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” (Isaiah 14:15)

Does your god have this right?

Man followed Satan’s rebellious lead.  Fallen man’s mind intensely opposes God’s absolute authority.

“… the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.” (Romans 8:7-8)

Some think their salvation ultimately rests on their “exercise” of “free will” in submitting to Christ’s authority.  But Jesus said,

“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:44)

Earlier, He contrasted His unbelieving opponents with those the Father gives to the Son.  Those given by the Father, shall all come.

“But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.  All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” (John 6:36-37)

Though free to choose, an unsaved man’s choice is directed by his nature which is fallen and hostile to God.  This is why Jesus told Nicodemus he needed to be born again.  He needed a new living nature implanted by God’s sovereign Holy Spirit.

“… Ye must be born again.  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:7-8)

The salvation of any person is the result of God’s elective mercy, rather than man’s exercise of will or other works.  It was purchased by the shed blood of Christ who rose from the dead.

“So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.” (Romans 9:16)

If God shows you mercy, you’ll fearfully realize you’re a helpless sinner.  If you call upon Him, He won’t cast you out!
