HOW GOD SHOWS HIS POWER

GOSPEL OF CHRIST — THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION

How would you answer someone who asked you how God shows His power?  One impressive display of God’s power is the energy unleashed in a hurricane.  Even more impressive is the intense energy of the Sun.  However, even the Sun is dwarfed by the hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy.  Our galaxy, in turn, is but a speck in the hundreds of billions of galaxies each containing their own suns.

The Apostle Paul expresses an interesting view of God’s power.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;” (Roman 1:16-18)

Did you catch that?  When Paul considers God’s power he thinks of the Gospel of Christ.  Paul realizes that God, who created everything we’ve just mentioned, is full of wrath against the wickedness of fallen man.

Imagine the futility of men who might seek to stop a hurricane.  Similarly, no fire department in existence could ever extinguish the Sun’s fire.  Yet many, today, think they can appease God’s wrath with their own good works!

Paul, recognizes the shear folly of such a thought.  He knows only God’s unfathomable power can remove God’s wrath against sinners.  That’s why Paul so loves the gospel of Christ which is “the power of God unto salvation.”  God the Son, Jesus Christ, offered Himself as a pure sacrifice to redeem all who “come unto God by Him” (Hebrews 7:25).  He died, was buried, and rose again three days later to provide this otherwise impossible salvation.

Many, today, mock this powerful message of salvation.  They mock the power of God who, alone, is able to save His people from His immeasurable wrath.  He alone can take a dead heart and breathe life into it.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)

Has Christ’s power caused you to trust Him?
