Will You be in the Place Where there is No Night?
by Tom Boynton (editing by Kathy Boynton)
The Bible describes “the new Jerusalem.”
“And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Revelation 21:2)
This city has many amazing features. One that caught my attention was that there will be no night there.
“And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.” (Revelation 21:25)
“And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 22:5)
As a little boy, I hated nighttime. I don’t think I was particularly afraid of the dark. It was just so boring. All activity ceased. Playtime was over. There was nothing interesting going on at night. I also hated afternoon naps for the same reason.
As I’ve gotten older, I am more often tired so that I sometimes welcome night time so I can sleep.
When I realized that there is no night in the new Jerusalem, I wondered if I might not become exhausted in such a city. But then I was reminded that I’ll have a new spiritual body.
“So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.” (1 Corinthians 15:42‑44)
This new body will be free of death, sickness, crying, pain, and probably exhaustion.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
God the Son died and rose again to save His people from their sins. Only the saved will be present in this amazing city.
“And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.” (Revelation 21:24)
Will you be in this place that has no night?
