Which Diversity are You Pursuing?

God, who created all that is, designed His creation with incredible diversity.

This diversity exists in plant life (Genesis 1:11).  It exists in the heavenly bodies (Genesis 1:14‑15).  Diversity is displayed in the vast array of sea and land creatures (Genesis 1:20‑25).  God designed Adam and Eve in a manner ensuring that their descendents would be diverse.  Out of billions, no two people are identical.  Adam and Eve were created in God’s image to be small pictures of God’s great authority.  Hence, He gave them dominion over the great diversity of other creatures He had made. (Genesis 1:26‑28).

Upon completing His diversity of creation, God declared it all to be very good.

“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.” (Genesis 1:31)

God had designed this great diversity of creation to exist in many interdependent relationships.  He established rules for all to follow.  The astronomical bodies follow God’s precise rules of movement in the heavens.  The plants and animals follow God’s designed life processes of growth and reproduction.  God gave Adam commands to follow.  These commands allowed him to enjoy God’s great good diverse creation.

“And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:” (Genesis 2:15-16)

However, here God drew the line.  He forbade Adam’s exploration of another realm of diversity which would bring evil and death.

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Genesis 2:17)

Genesis chapter 3 describes mankind’s fall into disobedience.  Ever since then, mankind has largely pursued a diverse array of evil and disobedient actions described in Galatians 5:19‑21.

Today, many are proclaiming diversity, itself, to be good.  However, only enjoyment of God’s good diversity, in obedience to His commands, is good!

God the Son, Jesus Christ, became the sin sacrifice to lift fallen man from the pit of evil diversity.  This restoration to God’s diversity of eternal blessings can only occur through faith in Jesus Christ.
