Do You Need Rescue from Blindness and a Living Death?

Once upon a time there was a blind man devoid of all five senses. He could neither see, hear, smell, taste, nor feel a touch. Born into a wealthy family, he was surrounded by talented musicians and musical instruments. Yet he could not hear them. Household chefs busied themselves preparing the world’s finest foods. Yet he could neither taste nor smell the aroma of those delights. This miserable man could not feel the comforting effects of skilled therapists and masseuses who attended him. Though physically alive and surrounded by great blessings, his existence was a living death of isolation, darkness, and silence.
For years this man existed without even understanding what existence is. Then, one day, a visitor with an ancient scroll approached him and read to him from that scroll.
The scroll contained a message of life and healing. Initially, the blind man could not hear the words because he was deaf. Yet, little by little, the blind man began sensing things to which he had been previously oblivious. The visitor was reading about a man who had paid a great price to heal blind men. That healer was author of this ancient scroll.
The healer’s blessings began to burst forth upon the blind man’s newly awakened senses. He cried out to Him and begged for new life and forgiveness. His newfound Savior became the delight of his soul.
The above story is a parable. In the spiritual sense, we each come into this world dead to the realities of God the Savior. What happened to the blind man is similar to what happens when the Spirit of God moves upon a soul that is spiritually dead:
“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” (John 3:8)
As the scroll of the parable, Scripture is God’s great tool in this miraculous rebirth.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)
The Word of God is the Bible. It speaks of Jesus Christ who is called “The Word” (John 1:1). It describes how He died and rose again to save sinners from spiritual death.
Christian: Are you presenting the Word to those still dead?
