OPPOSERS OF CHRIST: AN IRONY OF HISTORY

Will You be an Irony of History?

Perhaps the greatest irony of history comes from those who oppose Christ and His followers.  Little do they realize that they are actually fulfilling Christ’s prophesies thereby, unwittingly, demonstrating His authority as God incarnate.

Before His sacrificial crucifixion at Calvary, Jesus warned His disciples that those persecuting Him would persecute them too.

“Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; …” (John 15:20)

He continued by speaking of the senseless hatred which motivated their persecution.

“But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.” (John 15:25)

Ever since those days, those who reject Christ have persecuted His followers.  Ironically, by persecuting Christ and His followers, they demonstrate the accuracy of His omniscient prophecies regarding such persecution.

Christ also prophesied that those who killed Christians would claim they were serving God by doing so.

“They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.  And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.” (John 16:2-3)

Today, those who reject Christ employ false labels to destroy His followers.  They label Christ’s commands as “evil,” and perversion of His commands as “good.”  Then, with vicious self-righteousness, they condemn Christians as “haters” for lovingly following the commands of their Redeemer.  Yet their vicious actions fulfill Christ’s prophesies.

Though God uses even evil men to fulfill His prophesies, the prophet Isaiah proclaims God’s condemnation of their behavior.

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)

In the end, however, all will bow the knee to the ultimate and final judge, God the Son, Jesus Christ.

“For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.  So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Romans 14:11‑12)

In that day, will Christ deal with you as an irony of history, or as one of His redeemed sheep?
