THE BIG LIE

Has the Big Lie Tricked You?

“If you tell a big enough lie loud enough and often enough, people will believe it.”  This quote, and variations thereof, has been attributed to both Adolf Hitler and his Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels.  However, the concept of “the big lie” originated long before their time.  Listen!

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4-5)

“Ye shall be as gods…!”  Not only did Satan tell Eve the biggest lie of all history, he embellished it.  He made the blasphemous claim that this statement was something God Himself considered truth.

The rest is history which is still unfolding.  Adam and Eve both, apparently, believed the big lie and disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit.  Their spirits died and they lost the desire for further fellowship with their wonderful creator.  They hid themselves from Him.

Down through the ages, the big lie, “Ye shall be as gods,” has permeated human thought.  Mankind has repeatedly sought to claim the sovereignty belonging to God alone.  This is demonstrated by such statements as, “Each of us can be anything we choose.”  This sounds good but it’s false.  If everyone chose to be the world’s wealthiest person, only one could succeed!  Similarly, some folks choose to change their God assigned gender.  However, DNA analysis would reveal the futility of this attempt.  God’s original assignment is still indelibly stamped in each cell of the body.

Humanity’s attempt to take God’s place has been self-destructive.  Only God’s mercy can bring deliverance.  He demonstrated this mercy by sacrificing His only begotten Son.  Jesus Christ willingly offered Himself in a bloody crucifixion at Calvary.  Then He rose again.  The apostle Paul reminded the Corinthian Christians that their stony hearts had been transformed by God’s Holy Spirit.

“Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.” (2 Corinthians 3:3)

Have you been pursuing the big lie or has God humbled your heart and caused you to seek His forgiveness?
