GOOD NEWS IN THE GATHERING DARKNESS

Have You Appropriated and Proclaimed The Good News?

Years ago, Mom and Dad were troubled by the increasing wickedness of mankind.  It was difficult to raise their children in a world chasing darkness.  Back then, we children were too young to think much about raising our own future children.  Yet, Mom and Dad repeatedly expressed dismay over the difficulty we would face.  Today, as pursuit of evil accelerates at an alarming rate, those childhood days seem bright by comparison.  But now it appears that any hope for good news has been swallowed up by aggressive darkness.  Nevertheless, good news has come!  It is the same good news proclaimed centuries ago by God the Son, Jesus Christ.

“And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.  But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.  All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.  For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.  And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.  And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:35-40)

God’s salvation of His people cannot be thwarted!  After paying the supreme sacrifice for their sins, Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven.  As Paul and Silas spread His good news, they were soon placed in chains deep in a dark Philippian jail.  Yet, as they praised their Savior at midnight, God sent an earthquake to release their chains.  In fear for his life, the prison keeper asked,

“…Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30)

Paul and Silas answered,

“…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” (Acts 16:31)

Are you still in darkness or are you proclaiming Christ’s good news to those who are?
