A WASTE OF TIME?

Yesterday, my wife was shocked while speaking with a fellow Christian. He questioned whether Christians should “waste time” opposing evil like sodomy and other wickedness. “After all,” he argued, “shouldn’t we focus our attention on preaching the Gospel?”

Unfortunately, too many Christians have been lulled into thinking they can preach the Gospel without declaring the fundamental nature thereof. The Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity (2 Timothy 2:19).”

The true Gospel discriminates between light and darkness. The true Gospel discerns between good and evil. The true Gospel distinguishes between righteousness and iniquity. Paul’s statement shows that we, as Christians, have a responsibility to do more than just “name the name of Christ.” Paul instructed Timothy to encourage Christians to also “depart from iniquity.” We must depart from iniquity, not only in our personal lives, but also in our declarations regarding iniquity. Sodomy, adultery, murder (including abortion), theft, and other evils are all acts of iniquity. Christians and nations are urged to depart from iniquity and pursue righteousness. God’s Word says “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people (Proverbs 14:34).” We must speak clearly, to the unsaved, concerning the sins from which they need to be saved. Blurring the distinction between good and evil, leaves us with no Gospel to preach. The Angel told Joseph, “…she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. (Matthew 1:12)”

Christians: Let’s be clear in our declarations of the Gospel, as was the Apostle Paul who said, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief (1 Timothy 1:15).”

God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, died as a sacrificial substitute, to redeem all who beg Him to forgive and cleanse them from sin. Christian: Will you declare the Gospel of Christ clearly, or will you soft-pedal the true nature of sin thereby weakening your evangelism by failing to clearly discern between good and evil in your declarations?
