PERFECTION AND COMPLEXITY OF THE EYE

Do You Really Believe the Eye Could Occur Without Intelligent Design?

In his book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life, Charles Darwin describes the absurdity of evolution in the following quote.

“Organs of extreme Perfection and Complication.   To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree…” (from CHAPTER VI–DIFFICULTIES OF THE THEORY).

Darwin then rejects his own objections by imagining lengthy historical sequences of transitions in the eye.  He concedes that, in order to produce evolutionary progress, each imagined random transition would have to benefit the organism’s survival.  The difficulty of this assumption has become even more obvious since Darwin’s time.  True science has discovered that even “simple single-celled organisms” are incredibly complex.  Furthermore, mathematical probability poses insurmountable difficulties associated with such transitions.  Beneficial transitions are, at best, incredibly unlikely.  Millions of them would have been required.  At each stage, transitions which destroyed evolutionary progress would have been far more likely.  Simultaneous occurrence of mutually dependent beneficial transitions would have been necessary.  However, Darwin proceeds to dismiss this difficulty by simply declaring, without proof, that actual occurrence of his imagined sequence “…is certainly the case.”  He seems to base this only on the fact that the eye now exists, and that explanations involving God, “…cannot be trusted in science.”

Scripture makes strong comments regarding such vain imaginations.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened…” (Romans1:18-21).

God the Son, the creator, who has revealed Himself in so many clearly seen ways, is Jesus Christ.  He died and rose again to save His people from their sins.

Has God enlightened your heart’s eye to repent and trust Christ, or will you reject Him with vain imaginations of a “foolish” and “darkened” heart?
