Do you have a Thirst Blessing?

It was a warm day. Our tractor had gotten stuck in about two feet of mud and I was sweating profusely as I worked to extract it. I was exhausted and extremely thirsty.
Intense thirst can be very unpleasant but it is God’s great gift to mankind. It causes the thirsty person to drink and remain alive.
In the Bible, God tells us that there is a spiritual thirst which those who are spiritually alive will have. Jesus said,
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).
The person who has trusted Christ as Savior will thirst after God. Scripture provides many examples of this. The psalmist, David, said,
“…O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is” (Psalms 63:1).
In another place the psalmist writes,
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?” (Psalm 42:1-2).
The Lord Jesus Christ, God the Son, came to earth and offered Himself as a blood sacrifice to save His people from their sins (Matthew 1:21). While here in the flesh, He met a woman of Samaria who was drawing water from a well. He told her,
“Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13-14).
Just as people who are physically alive constantly desire physical water, those who’ve been redeemed by the risen Christ are spiritually alive and constantly desire His living water. The water of God’s Word brings spiritual cleansing to all who’ve been born again thereby becoming part of Christ’s Church. The apostle Paul reminded the Ephesian Christians that Christ,
“…loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,…” (Ephesians 5:25-26).
Does a spiritual thirst for the water of God’s Word mark you as one of His redeemed?
